Twinings Earl Grey Enveloped 50

Earl Grey tea is named after Charles Grey, the second Earl in his line. He was Prime Minister to King William IV in the early 19th century. The legend is that the Earl saved a Chinese mandarin's life, and the mandarin gave him the recipe for Earl Grey tea.

Earl Gray is a blend of Indian and Ceylon black teas. The tea gets its unique flavor from the oil of bergamot. Bergamot is a small acidic orange. Recent research indicates that the bergamot orange is a hybrid between the sweet or pear lemon (Citrus Limetta) and the Seville orange or sour orange (Citrus Aurantium). Sour oranges are native to southern Vietnam and have ties to China.

This tea has a light, refreshing taste and can be served hot or cold with or without milk or sugar. It can also be used to make iced tea.
